What Is BookSignal? Demand-Driven Publishing, Explained

By the BookSignal team · 2026-08-12

BookSignal (booksignal.io) is a book-validation tool for self-publishers, built by the team behind Designrr - the ebook creation platform used by hundreds of thousands of authors. It answers the one question every author should ask before writing: will anyone actually buy this book?

Most books fail before they're written. The author picks a topic they like, spends months writing, publishes - and discovers nobody was searching for it, or that page one of Amazon is a wall of 5,000-review bestsellers no new book can climb past. Industry data puts the average self-published book at around 250 lifetime sales. Not because the writing was bad - because the choice of book was a guess.

BookSignal replaces the guess with data.

What BookSignal actually does

You type in a book topic - say, "ADHD time management" - and about 40 seconds later you get a report built from live Amazon data:

The two-layer idea behind it

BookSignal's analysis rests on a distinction most authors never make: the market and the angle are different things. The market is the broad, proven demand pool - "stress management," "dog training," "meal prep." The angle is how your book ranks inside it - "stress management for executives," "dog training for rescue dogs." Validate only the narrow phrase and you'll underestimate real demand; validate only the broad market and you'll charge into competition you can't beat. BookSignal measures both layers and tells you whether there's a way in.

The decision rule we teach: the market is the buyers, the angle is how you rank. A GO means a real way in exists. Choosing between two GOs? Take the one with the higher Beatability and the weaker competitor reviews - and the topic that's genuinely yours.

Beyond validation: the full chain

Validation is step one, but BookSignal follows through: a validated topic flows into Book Ideas (five specific, publishable book plans with keywords and categories), then into the Series Creator (a connected multi-book series, each book outlined chapter by chapter, with an Amazon-ready description and a writing prompt you can paste straight into Designrr or any AI writing tool). The output isn't a report you admire - it's a publishing plan you execute.

Who it's for

First-time authors who don't want to gamble months of work; existing self-publishers who want their next book chosen by data instead of hope; and content entrepreneurs building catalogs of niche nonfiction. If you've ever asked "what should I write about?" or "will this sell?" - that's the job BookSignal was built for.

Know what to publish - before you write

BookSignal reads Amazon's own demand data and gives every book idea a clear GO-or-SKIP verdict, with the keywords, categories and pricing to help it sell.
